FILLINGS, CROWNS, AND BRIDGES

Fillings

Dental fillings are a common and effective treatment for cavities, which are caused by decay in the tooth enamel. By removing the decayed area and filling the space with a dental material, such as composite resin or amalgam, a filling can restore the strength and function of the affected tooth. They are an important part of maintaining good oral health and can help restore the strength, function, and appearance of your teeth.

Fillings can also help prevent further decay and damage to the tooth. By filling in the space where decay was removed, a filling can prevent bacteria from entering and causing further decay or infection. In addition to restoring function and preventing decay, fillings can also improve the appearance of the tooth. Modern filling materials are available in a variety of shades to match the natural color of your teeth, making them virtually invisible. Regular dental check-ups and fillings can help prevent more serious dental problems, such as gum disease and tooth loss, by addressing decay and damage early.

Crowns

A crown, also known popularly as a cap is a full-coverage restoration that covers and protects damaged teeth, restoring their original shape and function.  If unsightly teeth are spoiling your smile, crowns can enhance the appearance and at the same time protect and strengthen your teeth.

Crowns are also used to attach bridges, cover implants, and prevent a cracked tooth from becoming worse, or an existing filling is in jeopardy of becoming loose or dislocated. Crowns are made from a variety of materials, including metal, porcelain, gold, resin, or ceramic. Crowns can last a long time if properly cared for. We will give you proper instructions on how to care for your crowns and bridges. Certain behaviors and para-functional habits such as jaw clenching or grinding can significantly shorten the life of a crown. Moreover, eating brittle foods, ice or hard candy can compromise the adhesion of the crown, or even damage the crown.

Indications for a crown:

Bridges
What are bridges and how do they work?

Bridges are typically used to replace one more missing tooth in the mouth. They cover the space where the teeth are missing. Bridges are cemented and fixed onto the patient’s natural teeth or the implants thereby surrounding the empty spacing. Abutments (as these teeth are called) act like anchors for the bridge for it to work. Then a pontic which acts like a replacement tooth is then attached and fixed on to cover those abutments.

We will take an impression of your mouth for the teeth for which the bridge or crown is required. Then a temporary bridge or crown is placed on the teeth until the permanent ones are cemented and put on top of the teeth. At Floss Dental, we will work with you to create custom crowns and bridges that match the shade and look of your teeth so the result is a natural-looking tooth and a beautiful smile all without anyone ever guessing you have had restorative dentistry.
